Deacon Ministry

Below are the qualifications to serve as a Deacon at Grace Baptist.  

It is the biblical aim for Grace that each deacon join the pastor and church staff in ministering to the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of each church member and family.

-Born again Christian baptized by immersion. – John 3:16, Acts 8:35-38, Acts 2:41, Acts 9:18

-Must be an ordained man and a member of the church for one year. – I Timothy 3:6

-Willing to share testimony to the church. – 1 Peter 3:15

-To be a servant in service to God & the church. – Acts 6:1-15

-Believe the Bible to be the holy, infallible word of God. – Matthew 24:35, 2 Timothy 3:16-17

-Willing to share their faith with non-believers. – Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19-20

-Not to have serious domestic troubles. - 1 Timothy 3:11-12, Acts 6:1-8

-Never divorced. - 1 Timothy 3:11-12

-He and his wife are not to be involved in gossip. – Proverbs 6:16-19, I Timothy 3:8, 11, James 3:2-12

-He is not to be involved with gambling and dishonest gain. – I John 3:8, I Timothy 3:8

-He should handle business affairs above reproach. – Proverbs 11:1, I Timothy 3:8, Romans 12:17

-He should manage his household well. - 1 Timothy 3:4-5

-He should not partake of strong drink or tobacco products. – I Timothy 3:8, I Corinthians 6:19

-He should be a tither, and a believer in tithing as a member of the church – Malachi 3:7-10, I Corinthians 16:2, II Corinthians 9:7

-His conduct should be in keeping with the principles of the New Testament and seek the help of the Holy Spirit that he may be faithful and efficient in his service. – Ephesians 4:1

-Be a faithful attendee of Sunday school, all church services, and ministries of Grace Baptist. – I Corinthians 4:2, II Corinthians 9:7, I Thessalonians 5:17-19

-Be in good relationship with fellow church members, other deacons, and pastor and work with them out of love for God, and cooperate with the body of Christ. – Ephesians 4:32, Colossians 3:12-14, II Timothy 2:24, I John 2:9-11

-Will work to stop problems within the church family, gossip, murmurings, etc. and handle situations based upon what the Bible says, rather than how one feels.  Matthew 18:15-17 Luke 17:1-6, Romans 16:17-18, I Corinthians 5:9-13, I Thessalonians 5:12-14, Jude 16-19


-Oversee family outreach ministry to church membership.

-Assist the pastor in ministerial duties such as hospital, nursing home, shut-in and prospect visits, along with benevolence needs.

-Oversee the benevolence ministry of the church.

-Assist the pastor with administrative duties.

-Serve as an advisory council to the pastor.

-Serve as liaison between church and pastor.
